I Hope This is the Way Baseball Go for a Few More Years

Ah it's that time again here in Arlington the Rangers are yet again going to the playoffs via a Division clinching win.  Well I almost made it through that last sentence with a straight face.  As any Red Shoe Rangers fan can tell you its been eleven years since we've smelled the playoffs around these parts.  No, no, no, Norman eleven years, count one past ten.  Cheep jokes aside (not likely), lets talk about this rare phenomenon known as The October Classic featuring the Texas Rangers.

Oh, Grow Up!

Ah to be young and immature.  Except when you were supposed to grow out of that phase three or four years ago.  Well for all the 49er season ticket holders, for all the Utah Utes alumni, and for all quarterbacks who have yet to show their potential and shine, Alex Smith was your hero.  I found myself no longer caring about my fantasy team (my one fantasy team that lost had only the Saints' Colston left to play, one other had the 49ers' Gore and was in no danger of losing, and the other had no players this past Monday and also was in no danger of losing).  I wanted only for the 49ers to win (a long shot) and for Alex Smith to finally take control of his team (an even longer shot).  Normally one out of the two isn't the best outcome, however in this case its a joyful outcome and I'll tell you why.

Cowboys....

So.  Um.  Yeah.  Golly, the Cowboys are seemingly hellbent to go the exact opposite way of how I predicted they'd go, aren't they?  I just don't know what to make of these past two games.  That and my review of my playoff teams after the break.

Week 1: in Review

This is assuredly how more than at least one team felt after the smoke had cleared late yesterday evening.  Several even had Super Bowl contender hopes that aren't necessarily destroyed (remember its only week one!) but if certain matters aren't corrected then they eventually will be.  Dallas, Indy, Cincy, and Minnesota all had shocking losses that probably have them reevaluating several aspects of their team and collective game plan.  However not all is lost for all teams thus far some teams put their money where their mouths are and backed their claim to their post season claim.  New England, Green Bay, New Orleans, and Houston all dominated their respective games and look like contenders in their divisions.  But enough of this lets get to the games and break them down.

Back to the Cowboys

Alright! it's that time of year again guys!  Time to forget about all the worries and inconveniences in life, like your wife and her birthday/anniversary/existence.  Like showering and maintaining all other facets of personal hygiene.  Heck you can just forget what that weird place called "the outside world" is, because its football season once more!  Its time to get your fantasy team set up, time to pick your booms and busts, time to enjoy the sole reason left for being a man.  Its time to start worrying about your team in your town, which in my case is the Dallas Cowboys.  If you read this with any regularity you'll know that in my last post, which concerned the Rangers, I thought about getting into some Cowboys talk.  I decided that doing so wouldn't give either team the coverage they deserve.  So what of my questions, what about the Cowboys, is Wade really any good at coaching, is Romo really more concerned with his golf swing than his naked boot running abilities?  Hold your horses everybody, I'll sooth and reassure you shortly.

I Love the Rangers!...some days...

The dog days of summer are quickly coming to a close, although I'm sure that for Cliff Lee, that time cannot come quick enough.  Its the start of September and The Savior of the Rangers (Cliff Lee and the Rangers are in no way affiliated with the previous nickname) has been less than spectacular.  Yeah he put in some CGs and Cy Young stat lines but his last six starts he has played like a third in the rotation instead of the true ace.  What happend, what can be done, should we be worried for the team, for Cliff, for our playoff hopes, why have I not mentioned the Cowboys yet, are they not important anymore, is Wade any good at coaching, does Romo worry too much about his golf game, which company should I invest in, what about Hedi and Spencer?  The answers to all these questions and more after the break.

Ranting and Raving, No Dancing Allowed

I wonder how I will ever achieve the lofty heights of more than one follower in the blogging world.  I should probably get these things posted sooner.  Sheesh. However having this outlet to just write and talk about SPORTS! has been nice especially when there are times that I can't exactly talk intelligible sports with the people around me.  So on the to-do list for today we've got some more World Cup talk, some Rangers baseball talk and a personal little rant I want to go on.  Get ready, its about to get a little wild over here.

Cup o' USA 2010

Well, well, well, it seems that in my rush to get back with it, I really was a bad American and forgot to preview the World Cup.  Wait, what's that you say?  The United States have already had a weird and wild series of group play and have already made their exit to the largest worldwide phenomenon that is World Cup Soccer?  Alas all is true.  I have been so enveloped in this ecstasy of sports that I almost forgot to spend time with my girlfriend.  Well maybe I wasn't that enveloped, but she does seem to take up a lot of my free time.  Which I of course don't mind.

Do It, To It

After a lengthy time away from writing and the computer in general, I have come to the conclusion that I have to actually stick to my promises.  That being the case, I suppose I've got some catching up to do.

What in the wide, wide world of sports has happened since my last post?  I feel as though its been a year or more since my last update but its only been a month.  The Mavericks got a not-so-nice boot out of the playoffs, the Lakers and Celtics are going at it again for like the 2000th (exaggeration) time in their history, and activities in the Pastime are still relevant apparently.  Thanks for noticing America.

Lathargy

I know that you, my loyal readers, have been disturbed by my lack of activity in nearly a week. Take heart however, I have been out of town visiting family in the country, where "that new-fangled internets thing" isn't to be utilized during daylight hours. And with the bar scene being what it is, nothing really got done outside of the farm work.

The Little Mavericks

So I don't know why, but I've got a good feeling about tonight for our Hardwood Heroes. Look, its simple the Mavericks looked more like the Nets in Games Two, Three, and Four, than the high flying team we came to know over the last part of the season. But in the the two games that they've put together a dominant win, they've looked like they could take on any team they wanted and have a better than zero chance of winning. A dissenter might say well Popovich mailed in the second half of that game...blah blah blah, I stopped listening to their crap at that point. Seriously, yeah I agree, Pop agrees and his weird facial tumors agree that he mailed the second half in. The Spurs gave the first half their full attention, and with the exception of Tony Parkers one man side show (which still wouldn't have won them the game), the Mavericks whupped up on the Spurs early, late and often. So there.

And Here...We...Go!

So between finals looming and all that that implies I have been as of yet unable to post my first official story on this here blog thingy. This thing is going to primarily be about my views and opinions on current D/FW and surrounding Metroplex sports happenings (The Mavs are this close to being eliminated in case you've been living under your parent's house aka their basement). If I find it to be relevant, I'll try to post a story about it asap, with my goal being at least one post a week.

What is my format you may be asking yourself? Well truth be told, its none of your damn business. I'll write how I write and leave all two of my readers to figure out what is going on (that is a rough guess on how many people will take time to read this thing, because I've got this guy to compete with). But seriously I don't anticipate that anyone that has never met me will be reading this, but if they do it will be structured so that they will understand. When I think about it I'll explain all the nicknames and such that any reader may be unfamiliar with, so just calm down.

So with all that in mind, sit down, relax, and enjoy. Oh and by the way...
