After a lengthy time away from writing and the computer in general, I have come to the conclusion that I have to actually stick to my promises. That being the case, I suppose I've got some catching up to do.
What in the wide, wide world of sports has happened since my last post? I feel as though its been a year or more since my last update but its only been a month. The Mavericks got a not-so-nice boot out of the playoffs, the Lakers and Celtics are going at it again for like the 2000th (exaggeration) time in their history, and activities in the Pastime are still relevant apparently. Thanks for noticing America.
Here's the deal folks, the sport of baseball is one that is left in the dark by many people in this country unless something controversial happens. Of course the Galarraga near perfect game made headlines, any idiot can tell when someone gets screwed, even the
batter. Just watch the runner as he realizes that Joyce signaled him safe. He has the same reaction as all the Detroit Tigers. I understand that Joyce unquestionably blew this call he admits to it. But the only real way for this kind of thing to be eliminated is for the Tigers players to not leave this to human error. They play the game the same as anyone else. I also understand that the preceding argument has its weaknesses, so I'll make one final point. That batter has some blame here as well. That sounds crazy but he does. I understand that Donald was trying to do his job and beat the other team, but he represents the last out of a PERFECT GAME. Come on dude, why run all-out when you expect to get called out? Run full for 3/4 of the way and then let up so that way this kind of thing doesn't happen. Sounds silly and cheap but trust me Galarraga can say that he's not that upset but I'm quite certain if he had the choice he'd want his name in the record book.
Enough of that depressing stuff, and on to an even more depressing subject! It would seem that as early as tomorrow, that we will be witnessing the beginning of the end of the Big-12. I am wholly unsure of how exactly I should feel about this. On the one hand I am decidedly the most upset over the fact that the only reason for any of this to be happening is over TV market money. The Big-12 doesn't pay even its best schools enough money for air time and consequently other conferences want to expand and they just so happen to pay way more than the Big-12 ever thought about having to shell out. On the other hand this seems to be the last hurdle in getting D-1 NCAA Football to a playoff format. It also seems to be an avenue for the reformation of the greatness that was the Southwest Conference in the new home of an expanded SEC-West Division. Its a long shot to be sure but hey, anything can happen. I want to go into more detail but the fact is that there really isn't much to go on at this point its all speculation. Until Nebraska is officially part of the Big-10, nothing is a reality. So I'll just do a new post once that actually happens.
And now here's something we hope you'll really like! The Association is gonna have one barn burner of a finish to its best of seven series. Maybe Pierce was right, maybe this thing won't go back to L.A. But now it definitely would not be in the manner in which he meant. Here's the deal, the Lakers are good, so good that a bad night for number 24 is 30 points and 6 assists. Conversely coming into the Finals the Celtics were arguably the best overall defensive team this season. So who's to know what kind of series we were going to get. Game 1 seemed to indicate that this thing might not go to 5 games, then Boston decided to get off the plane for Game 2 to take a little bit of an edge. Game 3 saw K.G. carrying the poor Celtics. If Mr. Anything-Is-Possible is having to carry the rest of his Boston teammates, this thing won't go back to Los Angles. So we'll just have to see, but I expect the Lakers to win tonight and Boston to force it back to the west coast for a Game 6. And that's my call the Lakers in 6. Boom.
Just so I don't feel like a terrible American sports fan, congrats are in order to the Chicago Blackhawks on their OT win, and clinching of Lord Stan Lee's Cup. I really didn't watch this series because it just felt like having to watch the Browns play the Eagles for the Lombardi Trophy. The Browns (Blackhawks) used to be good, but in my lifetime haven't really been much of a factor, and its well a Philadelphia team, hiss-stinking-boo!
Well there you go. now you can rest easy.
