Well, well, well, it seems that in my rush to get back with it, I really was a bad American and forgot to preview the World Cup. Wait, what's that you say? The United States have already had a weird and wild series of group play and have already made their exit to the largest worldwide phenomenon that is World Cup Soccer? Alas all is true. I have been so enveloped in this ecstasy of sports that I almost forgot to spend time with my girlfriend. Well maybe I wasn't that enveloped, but she does seem to take up a lot of my free time. Which I of course don't mind.
Any complaints from the peanut gallery? "I'd rather watch hockey, tennis, golf or heck even semi-professional mens curling." Let me just answer the later of these preferences now, EWWWWWW! "The game times are all at horrendous times for Americans to watch because the games are played halfway around the world." OK this is a legitimate complaint. Never the less, get over yourselves people. We seem to be the only country in the world who hate and/or dislike the most popular sport on this planet, heck maybe even in this dimension. Just go with me on this, but maybe just maybe, if every other country that inhabits this planet has soccer as its number one or number two most popular sport, then is it not conceivable that maybe we as a country are in the wrong here?
My dislike of the typical American Pretentious Attitude aside, this run for the Americans was by any and all accounts unbelievably crazy. The way each game played out couldn't be imagined much less written for a script. Seriously just go watch videos on each match that the U.S. played in this year and just try not to scream at the countless number of injustices that Donovan and Co. endured. It wasn't only the bad officiating but just all the unlucky breaks of the ball, all the hit posts and crossbars after excellent chance shots.
Then, after surviving all of these, this team makes a rather boring and wholly unexpected exit during the first round of KOs. What gives right? Well given their group play matches, it only makes sense that the team was drained. Plain and simply they deserve the right to be. While it is obviously preferable that they beat Ghana and moved on to continue to try and prove themselves, I understand coming up short in this instance. Ghana only won the thing in extra time, they were certainly still in the match the whole time. So lets just enjoy the rest of this wonderfully exciting tournament and wait with luster until the next time Team USA gets together to try and take on the world.
